Hard seal and soft seal difference
Hard seal: The two sides of the seal pair are metal materials or hard other materials called "hard seal ". The sealing performance of this seal is poor, but high temperature resistance, wear resistance, good mechanical performance. For example: steel + steel; Steel + copper; Steel + graphite; Steel + alloy steel; (The steel may also be cast iron, cast steel, alloy steel or surfacing, sprayed alloy).
Soft seal: One side of the two sides of the seal pair is metal material, the other side is elastic non-metallic material is called "soft seal ". The sealing performance of this seal is better, but it is not resistant to high temperature, easy to wear, poor mechanical property. Such as: steel + rubber; Steel + PTFE [wiki] polyethylene [/wiki]; Soft seal refers to one side of the seal pair is made of materials with low hardness. Generally speaking, the soft seal seat is made of non-metallic materials with certain strength, hardness and temperature resistance. It has good sealing performance and can be made to zero leakage, but its life and adaptability to temperature are poor.
Hard seals are made of metal, which is relatively poor, although some manufacturers claim zero leakage. Soft seal on some corrosive materials can not meet the process requirements, hard seal can be solved! These two kinds of sealing can complement each other, soft sealing is relatively good in terms of sealing, but now the sealing of hard seal can also meet the corresponding requirements! The advantage of soft seal is good sealing performance, the disadvantage is easy to aging, wear, short service life. The service life of hard seal is long, but the tightness is worse than that of soft seal.
